About

Skelwith Fold Holiday Cottages are located in the tiny hamlet of Skelwith Fold, bordering the Skelwith Fold Estate. Formerly the grounds of a stately home, today Skelwith Fold is an independent and award-winning holiday park. While the holiday cottages are comfortably set aside from the park for maximum privacy and peace, guests of Skelwith Fold Cottages are welcome to make full use of all of the facilities of the park for free.

Enjoy the best of both worlds with Skelwith Fold! Enjoy the luxurious cottages, authentic Lakeland homes that have been renovated with the latest mod cons, whilst having access to the facilities of a modern and nationally recognised holiday park.

The Great Outdoors

Enjoy the beautiful private grounds of Skelwith Fold on your doorstep. From the woodland walks with some stunning views across the Langdales to the serenity of Slew Tarn there’s so much to be enjoyed across the park. And don’t forget to find the unique henge, next to the recreational field where you can enjoy a game or let the dog (or kids!) tire themselves out!

Woodland Walks

Woodland walks wind their way throughout the grounds of Skelwith Fold. Closed to the general public, they are freely available for guests at Skelwith Fold Cottages to take advantage of. Get close to nature and enjoy some of the great views across the dales of the Lake District.

Slew Tarn

Also within the grounds open to guests is the quietly beautiful Slew Tarn – the lake where much of the 1974 classic film ‘Swallows and Amazons’ was filmed. Notable not only for its serene beauty, but also the wonderful native wildlife that live in and around the waters.

Henge & Recreational Field

Discover the unique wooden Henge near the top of the grounds at Skelwith Fold. Carved into each of the logs that make up the henge are individual faces, making it something special. The recreational field here is ideal for games and letting kids and dogs run around!

Skelwith Fold Shop

At the heart of Skelwith Fold is the shop and reception. The environmentally friendly building is built from local Cumbrian slate and clad in timber recycled from trees felled in the grounds during storms and combatting disease like ash dieback. The living roof is covered in moss and grasses – as well as solar panels to minimise the carbon impact of the building.

The shop stocks a range of food and drinks, enough to keep your cottage stocked with locally sourced meals during your stay. Plus a range of ice creams and other treats produced in the Lake District!

The Reception also has a wide range of information about the local area, if you need some inspiration about the best places to visit during your Lakeland adventure. The Skelwith Fold team are very friendly and knowledgeable – come in for a chat if you want to get their personal recommendations for things to do whilst you’re enjoying your stay in the Lake District.

Adventure Play & Sports Pitch

Younger children can enjoy the fantastic adventure playgrounds at Skelwith Fold whilst parents relax in the sun or in the neighbouring gazebo. All ages can have fun making use of the all weather sports pitch!

Sammy the Squirrel

Children can enjoy the interactive Sammy the Squirrel trail through the Skelwith Fold woods. Follow the Sammy’s story by finding his friends and scanning the QR codes to read or watch the tale – written exclusively for Skelwith Fold.

Nature Trail

Find out more about our wonderful wildlife by following the Skelwith Fold Nature Trail throughout the park. Boards tell you more about the plants and animals great and small that you can see – with more info on interactive QR codes.

Nature Hide

Tucked away in the Skelwith Fold woods is our Nature Hide built from reclaimed timber. The hide looks out into a small woodland clearing with animal feeders – ideal for you to spot native wildlife from woodpeckers to iconic red squirrels.

Skelwith Fold Library

Whether you enjoy reading in the sun or you need an indoors distraction on a rainy day, help yourself to any of the huge range of books in our free library. It’s also a nice and quiet spot to sit and read if that’s what you need.

Woodland Walks

Enjoy walking around the extensive footpaths that wind through the Skelwith Fold woodland. Most of the paths are surfaced to make them accessible for most wheelchairs, pushchairs and other mobility aids.
